TRICE TO MISS FINAL ROUND OF GT ACADEMY
Toby Trice will miss the final round of the Ginetta GT Academy championship in order to ensure he is crowned the series’ inaugural champion.
Trice provisionally won the championship at the penultimate round at Silverstone in September, but with only the best four rounds being counted for points, he has decided that it would be better not to race at Donington.
The reasoning for this is if he were to pick up a penalty, that round would have to be counted as the regulations state you cannot discount any infringements or disqualifications.
Speaking about the decision to miss the final round of the championship, Toby said: “With the championship wrapped up, we don’t need to race. We drop a round anyway in this championship, so why risk losing the championship on a technicality when we’ve already got it all sealed up?”
“There’s only one first champion and it’s got my name against it, so I’m absolutely thrilled.”
It means that Toby will become the inaugural GT Academy champion, having taken eight victories over the course of the season, and securing his first championship title has left him feeling incredibly proud.
“We came into this weekend with really high hopes that we would do it and it feels utterly utterly incredible to think we’ve actually become champions in the GT Academy, the very first GT Academy championship.
