Trice’s maiden porsche win
Toby Trice storms to victory in the opening round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. Trice claimed his first pole position and victory in the championship, putting him in an enviable position for the rest of the season.
Trice's weekend got off to an amazing start on Saturday, with him topping the timesheet in qualifying. He beat out Team Parker Racing's Joe Warhurst to the top spot by a mere 0.128 seconds, leaving Matthew Armstrong in third by 0.199 seconds. His incredible performance gave him not only pole position for the opening race of the weekend but also second on the grid for Sunday's opening race.
But it was the Saturday race that saw Trice's dreams of becoming a Porsche race winner realized as he led away from the start and managed to fend off Warhurst for the entire race, crossing the finish line 0.280 seconds ahead to claim his first victory of the season.
"I couldn't have asked for anything better," said Trice. "It's awesome to get the first pole and win of the season and, of course, my maiden pole and first win in Porsche. Having struggled last year, I really doubted myself, but I've hit the ground running this year."
And hit the ground running he did, despite incredibly difficult conditions on Sunday that made the track very slippery for all the drivers. Trice got boxed in at the start of the race and dropped to fourth but managed to work his way back up the order, making a great move to get himself into second position. Unfortunately, shortly after taking second, Trice went over a kerb at McLeans and had to save a huge slide, dropping him back to fourth.
But Trice wasn't disheartened and stated, "I'm not here to sit still. I want to move forward, I want to be progressing, and I know I have the pace of my competitors. Fourth wasn't ideal, but it just shows I am a force to be reckoned with."
Trice started the final race of the weekend in fourth, retaining his position for the entire race. Despite limited green flag running due to a long safety car period, Trice ended his first race weekend of the season in an incredible second place in the championship with 22 points, only four points behind championship leader Steve Roberts.
With momentum on his side, Trice is ready to take on the next round of the championship and push hard to win the team's championship for Redline Racing alongside his teammate Roberts. "Watch this space, see what happens!" exclaimed Trice, giving fans something to look forward to in the coming races.
A huge thanks to TestHim, Logixx, and CTL Commercials, Trice's lead sponsors for this year. Without their support, none of this would be possible. Get ready for more thrilling races as Trice and the other drivers take on the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB!
